Possible causes: |
One or both ports are not powered on (If system port, system adapter shows up in defined state or not at all) Check adapter LEDs (If LEDs are off, this may be a system slot power issue or an adapter seating issue. Check system adapter slot power indicator. |
One or both ports have a poor mechanical connection to the fibre cable. |
Defective cable. ( replace if needed). |
Adapter not fully opened in AIX and the AIX device driver has put the adapter in a quasi-open state: If the adapter has been in the server but never connected, the AIX device driver will put the adapter in a quasi-open state. In this state, diagnostics will run fine, but the link will not come up automatically when connected to the SAN.. The adapter is waiting for instructions from the AIX device driver to bring the link up. |
What to do: adapter has never been in use |
Run configuration manager "cfgmgr -l fcsX" (where X is the adapter) to force AIX to open, the adapter. The AIX device driver will instruct the adapter to bring up the link. |
What to do: adapter had been operational |
Check that the cables connection are good. |
Check that the adapter and the switch or end device has power. |
Check the link stats for sign of defective cables or transceivers (link_stats) |
After correction, run configuration manager: "cfgmgr -l fcsX" (where X is the adapter). |
